Pugni Principalis -Review

The author of 'Pugni Principalis' is a Finnish band with traditionaly
unpronouncable name. But if the name is fucked up, almost like the patients
of the house without door handlesto, the music of Vuohivasara is in all
aspects assimilable.
'Pugni Principalis' is an EP, including less than 15 minutes of Finnish
black metal. There's everything, beginning with fast speeds, through
melodic riffs, ending on slow downs and venomous vocals. I'd describe them
in some ways as Dissection-inspirde, but I don't wan't to harm Finns
musically, because their music has some kind of a different character, than
– let's say - Swedish 'Storm of the Light's Bane'. Yes, it's still melodic,
but nothing more! Vuohivasara is the speed in the first place, poured with
good atmosphere, built by clean male vocals, including the choir parts
('Armageddon', 'Witchcraft'). And I bet that it's the most characteristic
element of the band, witch forces to pay attention and causes shivers of
emotions around ones neck. I'd like to hear more of that opera add-ins in
Vuohivasara's black metal.
The debut of Vuohivasara is quite promising, however there's still too much
typical melodic riffs. 'Witchcraft', the best track on that CD, with great
chorus, shows that this Finnish band has a potential to write good melodic
black metal, which's a good listen for fans. So, I think that it won't be a
sin, if you try to get 'Pugni Principalis'. But I'd be rather carefull with
prising them at that moment…
